Understanding vs. Silver
#2. This past weekend I traveled to the grand city of Jackson, Ohio, to visit with family. It was a very warm night that we choose to play capture the flag out in the back yard. We were only about ten minutes into the game when someone was able to capture the opposing teams flag and cross the line to win. It turned out that the person had been tagged and still decided to not go to jail. I began questioning the issue, which lead to an argument among us. I began to lose my temper when my Uncle was telling me that I did a poor job at explaining the rules. It all ended terribly, upsetting all those who were playing, eventually led to the end of the game as a whole. That night I did not sleep very well because I was not proud of my actions or words. It was also that night that I heard the Spirit tell me to read Proverbs 16. The whole chapter stood out to me, but one verse really spoke to me. Proverbs 16:16 says (NIV) "How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver!" I realized that the "capture the flag" scenario that happened the night before could have been avoided if only I had chosen to understand the situation rather than to become angry. For now on, I hope to step back from the scene just to get a better look. I am praying that God gives me the opportunity to grow in my wisdom, and to become more understanding of the situation. God Bless and Follow Jesus
