He is the Good in Us
#3. I know that I have not posted a devotion in awhile, so please forgiving me for not updating it. I have had something laid recently upon my heart that I feel the Lord wants me to share. Going back to college was a very stressful thing for me. I had to make sure that I was organized and that I finished my homework. Through the thick of things I realized how sinful the world is. There is such a culture difference in my hometown to the one at school. I began to feel the temptation of sin working its way into my life. That is when the Lord presented me with a verse that really gave me confidence. Read Romans 7:7-25. In here, it speaks of how we try to do good in our life, but then we end up doing what we hate to do, which in these cases is sin. But I found hope in one verse of this passage, Romans 7:20 - Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. What this means is that when we do what we absolutely hate to do, it is not doing it at all but the sin in us. We have to realize that nothing we do is good, unless it is done in the name of Christ because the only good we can do is the good that God does through us. My one and only example of this relates to Lord of the Rings. Boromir tries to take the ring from Frodo to do good with it. But what he did not realize is that the ring is pure evil, and no good can come out of it. Nothing good can come out of our sin, only out of the goodness of God. Please pester me to update this often :-D Keep the Faith and Follow Jesus

Understanding vs. Silver
#2. This past weekend I traveled to the grand city of Jackson, Ohio, to visit with family. It was a very warm night that we choose to play capture the flag out in the back yard. We were only about ten minutes into the game when someone was able to capture the opposing teams flag and cross the line to win. It turned out that the person had been tagged and still decided to not go to jail. I began questioning the issue, which lead to an argument among us. I began to lose my temper when my Uncle was telling me that I did a poor job at explaining the rules. It all ended terribly, upsetting all those who were playing, eventually led to the end of the game as a whole. That night I did not sleep very well because I was not proud of my actions or words. It was also that night that I heard the Spirit tell me to read Proverbs 16. The whole chapter stood out to me, but one verse really spoke to me. Proverbs 16:16 says (NIV) "How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver!" I realized that the "capture the flag" scenario that happened the night before could have been avoided if only I had chosen to understand the situation rather than to become angry. For now on, I hope to step back from the scene just to get a better look. I am praying that God gives me the opportunity to grow in my wisdom, and to become more understanding of the situation. God Bless and Follow Jesus

Forgiveness of Sin and Guilt
This is the first devotion. How many of you have that one sin that you just cannot get rid of? Don't you wish there was someway to be truly forgiven? There is, we all suffer from the burden of sin, and only Christ Jesus can relieve us of that burden. Through Christ our sin can be forgiven. What I usually suffer the most from sin is not the actual sin, but the guilt I feel after I have sinned. I am not saying that it is O.K. to sin because you can always be forgiven. I am saying that when you do sin that Christ Jesus died on the cross, so that you may BE forgiven of our sin. King David suffered from sin, read Psalm 51. This Psalm was written by King David after he had committed adultery with Bathsheba. David truly asks God to forgive him, and he is. Another great Psalm, is Psalm 32, also written by David. David explains how he could feel the burden of guilt on his body. If you suffer from sin in your life and you just want to be rid of it and be truly forgiven, read these two Psalms and ask God to fill that empty gap in your heart. Ask God to forgive you of your sins and purify your heart (James 4:8). It is only through Christ Jesus that we can be truly forgiven. Remember to keep the faith, and trust in God to lead you to do his will (Jeremiah 29:11).
